Most newspaper photos are made both to illustrate the article and capture the moment in time. The photographic images are in support of a preordained narrative, and may do little or less to reflect the actual person or scene photographed. It is uncommon that this kind of work is made to reflect an essential reality rather then a journalistic opinion/view. There are newspaper photographs that do this, but I don’t run across it often in my morning paper. The other morning I did. (The photograph below is of Warwick residents Danielle Barbour, Joynell Barbour, and daughter Mya Joy Barbour.)

These portraits are beautifully composed – they give one a real sense of who these people are, rather than the photographer imposing his view. Obviously, as I know from my own work, you are still using your vision, but in a far more subtle and open way. These images are very traditional in technique, as I expect are the camera/s used. He does that superbly. (The photograph below is of Library Director Rosemary Cooper.)

I admire that he is giving real presence to these people in Warwick. (The photograph below is of Warwick resident Ralph William Boone.)

And this photograph of a street in Warwick is again beautifully composed and gives a sense of place beyond the moment.

His website is mostly professional, but I really liked the images in Geometry.
