Small Benefits of Being a Size Activist
Debbie says:
I found it extremely satisfying after a check-up this morning to have my (basically very good) doctor say, “Well, I guess the only thing we have to worry about is your BMI,” and to be able to answer, “Well, since I don’t believe in BMI, that means we have nothing to worry about.” He even said he’d read some references if I sent them to him.
That is all.

I just had a similar conversation with my new personal trainer (who happens to be fat despite being incredibly fit).
Would love it if you could post some of those references. I had a hard time explaining why I oppose BMI aside from the fact that it’s based on arbitrary and bogus insurance charts.

Hi, Patia,
The best references I know are from our BMI post, which I linked to above. Just click on “BMI” in the post and you’ll get to them.
I’m sending them to my doctor tonight.

Go, Debbie!
I’m going to be so bold as to copy some of these references and post them in the gym where I work as a trainer.
An uphill battle every step of the way….
