International Women’s Day: Photographer Tee Corinne (NSFW)

Laurie says:

I usually put up a blog about my friend photographer Tee Corinne near the anniversary of her death. (She died in August of 2006.) This year International Women’s Day seems liked the right time.

..

She was a lesbian artist, writer, activist, and historian with a passionate artistic nature and a very sharp mind. We first met in Florida when we were in our 20s and resumed our long friendship in our 40s.

I still miss her every day.

I thought I’d put up this beautiful image from her book Yantras of Womanlove, published in 1982. To create these beautiful complex images she used the technique of arranging multiple prints using solarisation, flipped negatives, and images printed in negative and multiple exposures.

..

And these solarized dancers:

And this “landscape” – obviously multiple negatives:

..

I’m glad I put this up today but it’s definitely making me sad.

Hi, lovely to see Tee’s face brings back wonderful memories of her and her brave photographs. Her explorations of women’s bodies and lesbian erotics still are revolutionary. We could use her energy at a time when the new war on women is being waged by the same monied, backward, narrow-minded flat-landers who are ruining this country for the 99% of us.

Thanks, Laurie. They included some Tee photos in a recent Leslie/Lohman show which I saw when I was in the City. Yes, memories of Tee come frequently. She was a true and wonderful friend. And Cassandra has such a fine way of putting the continuing struggle for justice of all sorts.

    Cassandra,

Yes, her energy is really missed, but for me the memories of Tee and her work really help.

    Sherman,

Glad to hear about her work in the exhibition. She was a wonderful and inspirational friend. And Cassandra’s eloquence is much appreciated.
